The truth of that tale has not been proven, but I think the men on the staff wanted it to be true because it brightened his aura of interesting glamour. ![]() There was gossip about his shoots, but mostly concerning celebrities I recall stylists recounting rumours of a bisexual orgy with supermodels in his New York studio, and jokingly referring to his pictures of this carry on as “Terry’s pension”. I met him three times, all before the first harrassment allegation against him, in 2001 and, so far as I’m aware, before he started publishing photographs of himself having sex with models. Some of the less obvious reasons for the fashion industry’s delayed reaction to the allegations might be buried in that period. I had been well placed to watch the phenomenon develop, having in the mid-90s edited the Face magazine, which ran some of his early pictures. In 2000 I was interviewing him for a long story about pornography’s influence on fashion for the Daily Telegraph. Curators at fine art galleries, broadsheet newspaper editors and highbrow book publishers all nodded along sagely. ![]() And yet his proselytising was once taken seriously, and not only by the fashion industry. ![]()

![]() Boccaccio promoted the use of the Tuscan vernacular in the written form, rather than the traditional Latin. He is known as one of the “three jewels,” of Italian literature, along with Petrarch and Dante Alighieri, as well as a founder of Renaissance Humanism. ![]() ![]() Through these connections and experiences in Naples, Boccaccio began to write poetry. In Naples, he also met and fell in love with a woman named Fiammetta, whose presence dominates his work, including The Decameron. His father had connections to the wealthy Bardi family, which resulted in Boccaccio’s introduction to many influential scholars, as well as to Petrarch’s early work. At fifteen, Boccaccio was sent to Naples to study business, finance, and law. Boccaccio spent most of his childhood in Florence, studying with the private tutor Giovanni di Domenico Mazzuoli da Strada, with whom he learned the “seven” liberal arts-grammar, rhetoric, dialectic, arithmetic, geometry, music, and astronomy. Giovanni Boccaccio was born in the year 1313 in Tuscany (either Certaldo or Florence) to an unknown French woman and the wealthy merchant Boccaccino di Chellino. ![]() ![]() ![]() The rest of the book is chilling whenever the supernatural elements are involved. It is ironic though, that a seemingly supernatural event draws Fiona to Shillingstone, to investigate the kidnappings happening there. ![]() We tend to disregard voices, ghosts or the like because it is not scientifically explained and Fiona is just like that. I think the reason that the book is intriguing is because all of us, at some level do not believe in the supernatural. I’ve not seen many authors combine mystery and supernatural and I felt the author handled that well. This book outlines Fiona’s fourth mystery (yet, the first book in the series that I am reading) and a quirky one at that. But for the time I was reading the book, I was completely absorbed in it. It didn’t take me that long to finish reading the book. I literally left my work aside because I was so absorbed in the book.
